On Sunday evening, Lyon secured their fifth league title in seven years by defeating Nice 1-0 at Stade de Gerland. The win was all the more impressive given that it came against a team who had been in fine form recently.

The match kicked off with both teams looking to get off to a fast start, but it wasn't until the 56th minute when Lyon finally broke through. A well-placed cross from Lucas Tousart found its way to the head of striker Nicolas Lopes Lacazette, who slotted home the equalizer for the visitors.

With the score level at 1-1, it looked like Nice would have to settle for a point at best. However, just four minutes later, Lyon regained the lead thanks to a penalty kick taken by captain Hugo Lloris. With his left foot, he calmly dispatched the ball into the top corner of the net, securing his side's first victory over Nice since November 2019.

Despite being down to ten men for most of the second half following a red card to defender Maxime Lopez, Lyon managed to hold on and secure their place in next season's Champions League. The win means that they will now face Paris Saint-Germain in the final round of matches, where they will be hoping to claim their sixth French title in a row.
